After a thrilling FA Cup final (enjoy the Conference League, Chelsea) that saw Manchester United walking away with the trophy, this is usually where the world would take a little break from the scene. But not in 2024. The Eufa Euros are right around the corner, and now Showmax is offering coverage of all 51 matches to its Premier League subscribers – at no extra cost.
“Showmax, the leading streaming service in Africa, is set to raise the bar for football fans with the announcement of live streaming for all 51 UEFA EURO games at no additional cost,” Showmax said in a press release. “This ground-breaking initiative ensures that viewers can enjoy the thrill and excitement of every match from the highly anticipated tournament at the touch of a button on their mobile.”
What’s the catch, Showmax?
Germany has the privilege of hosting the prestigious global tournament this year, meaning it’ll be taking on Scotland in the first match, set to kick off on Friday, 14 June at 21h00 local time. As the champions of the Euros in 2020, Italy takes on Albania the following day. It will culminate in an epic clash for the final, currently scheduled for 14 July. And Showmax has it all.
“EURO coverage will include all build-ups, live matches, wraps, as well as a live magazine show to keep subscribers up to date with all the action from the football spectacular taking place in Germany.”

Sounds good, right? Well, kinda. You’ll need to put up with the streamer’s absurd practice of making fans watch their football on their mobile phones or laptops, though TV apps exist too. Showmax’s Premier League tier, which you can pick up for a reasonable R70/m price, is a mobile-only tier. If you go this route, it’s smartphone or tablet all the way (but let Google tell you about its Chromecast technology before you get too downcast).
Honestly, we don’t see what other choice you have if the Euros are a must. MultiChoice, owner of both Showmax and DStv, currently holds the exclusive broadcast rights to the Euros in South Africa. So unless you feel like forking over a kidney to afford even a month of DStv, Showmax is the way to go. Or you could always try the local pub.
