Mario Day is upon us. But that’s not why we’re here. Capcom used the plumber’s big day to unleash “Chainsaw Demo” – a playable Resident Evil 4 demo, two weeks before the game’s full release. It was announced by the game’s producer, Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, during Thursday’s Capcom Spotlight event.
The demo is free to download right now for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC (Steam). Capcom hasn’t imposed any time limits, and you can play the game as many times as you’d like. Yeah, that’s our weekend sorted.
Gotta gets those green ‘erbs.
Those familiar with the original Resident Evil 4 will get an early look at the remake’s opening village, with the demo’s description calling it a “specially tuned version of the game’s opening sequence.” We’ll still get to see Leon S. Kennedy take on a horde of torch-wielding villagers before tangling with the infamous Chainsaw Man before the game stops you in your tracks. You’ll have to wait until the full release to continue with Leon’s journey.

The full Resident Evil 4 remake launches on 24 March for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC. If you’re feeling too confident after defeating the demo’s Chainsaw Man, a DLC dubbed “The Mercenaries” will come to make things a little more challenging. And yes, Capcom has confirmed that the game’s day one patch will fix the unfortunate rain graphics.
