PC gaming peripheral maker Razer has announced the next member of its Viper gaming mouse family, the Viper Mini Signature Edition, or Viper Mini SE, if you’re short on time.
Razer’s intentions with the Viper Mini SE should be immediately obvious. It has changed focus from trying to offer the most sensitive mouse with the highest possible CPI (counts per inch), to the lightest mouse it can muster.
Either that or Razer saw what FinalMouse was charging for its over-hyped mice and thought it could do better. And who’s to say it can’t?
The Viper Mini SE isn’t for trypophobists
The company isn’t being coy about who it’s targeting with the newcomer. It calls the Mini SE “ultra-high-end” in the first few sentences. That’s one way to describe a $280 (R4,770) gaming mouse. We can think of a few others, they rhyme with ‘truck ew’.
Unfortunately for Razer, it’ll still need to shave off just over half the Mini SE’s weight to be considered the world’s lightest gaming mouse. That crown currently lies with the Zaunkoenig M2K which tickles the scale at 21g. But here, you’re sacrificing a lot.
To Razer’s credit, it hasn’t just made a lightweight wireless mouse. It has also packed in just about every bit of high-end tech found in its other mice. The Mini SE feature’s the company’s latest Focus Pro 30K optical sensor made in collaboration with PixArt, new Gen-3 optical switches rated for 90 million clicks, and fast charging – fully charged in 90 minutes, apparently.

It will also come with the HyperSpeed Wireless dongle in the box, allowing a 4,000Hz polling rate and a set of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 mouse feet. The Gorilla Glass mouse feet are a new edition for Razer and the HyperSpeed dongle is usually an additional purchase. Razer is also offering a three-year extended warranty with the Mini SE, a whole year longer than usual. Anything to justify that price.
