Not long ago Xiaomi announced that it was bringing one of its flagship devices, the Xiaomi 12, to South Africa. But that’s the high-end stuff. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has also announced the expansion of its budget lineup in South Africa with the Redmi 10A and 10C.
For the cash-intolerant
The two devices are mostly similar with a couple of exceptions, namely the chipset and camera array. The Redmi 10A packs a MediaTek Helio G25 while the Redi 10C features a Snapdragon 680 processor. Neither chip supports 5G and that’s fine. These are budget devices, after all.
The Redmi 10A features a lone 13MP rear camera sensor with a 5MP selfie cam up front. It also features a variety of storage and memory options. We’re only getting one of them though. Specifically, the model with 2GB of memory and 32GB of storage. Thankfully, the latter is expandable with a MicroSDXC card.
The Redmi 10C improves on this. A little. It also features a single rear camera but at 50MP it’s a considerable upgrade. It’s joined by a 2MP depth sensor (so technically, that’s two sensors, kinda). As with the 10A, we’re only getting one of multiple memory and storage options: 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage.

Both devices include very similar IPS LCD displays. The 10A’s display measures 6.53in with a 720×1600 resolution. The 10C’s screen is slightly larger at 6.71in. Both feature a teardrop notch for the selfie cam and a large chin bezel. You’ll get a 5,000mAh battery in both, with the 10C supporting 18W charging and the 10A only offering 10W.
Sure, on paper those aren’t the latest and greatest specs, especially when compared to a flagship. But doing that is dumb. Don’t do that. Just shut up and look at the price. It’ll cost you R2,300 for the 10A and R3,300 for the 10C.
