Meta is launching a digital clothing store so you can dress your avatar in Prada

Meta avatars

If your dream has been to dress up your metaverse avatar in fancy designer clothes, you’re in for a treat (and we feel a little sorry for you). Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Friday, 17 June, that the company is launching a digital designer clothing store called the “Meta Avatars Store.” Very original.

Blue Steel

The new virtual store is launching on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger. The store will have digital outfits from Balenciaga, Prada, and Thom Browne, with more options on the way. Meta has not revealed any pricing information for these digital outfits, but if the designer names are any indication, we’re going to leave our avatars in their peasant clothes.

Zuck made the announcement during an Instagram Live broadcast with Eva Chen, VP of Fashion Partnerships.

Stylish avatars to come

Zuckerberg sees the new fashion clothing options as a way for users to express themselves via their avatars. “Digital goods will be an important way to express yourself in the metaverse and a big driver of the creative economy. I’m excited to add more brands and bring this to VR soon too,” Zuckerberg said.

The Meta Avatars Store will start rolling out in the United States, Canada, Thailand, and Mexico. The company plans to introduce new brands for the store soon. One of them being Gucci.

We’re not sure if people will whip out their credit card for these kinda skins, but maybe some want to live their best lives digitally. We wonder if we’ll see Mr Price or Ackermans represented.
