This bike has been designed to take on any terrain, and when we say any terrain, we mean any terrain. We’ve all seen bikes that drive around on land, right? (duh) We’ve also heard the stories about the dude who could walk on water. The creators of the Ultra Bike dared to ask; “what if we could combine those two?”
Thus, the Ultra Bike was born. A bike that will handle snow, sand, and water without a hitch. The creators of the Ultra Bike are a company known as Robo Systems – a team of engineers setting out to build cool stuff. Mission accomplished.
Charge ‘er up
We know this ‘bike’ isn’t exactly ‘pretty’. It looks like something straight out of Days Gone, which sort of adds to the cool factor. This is because the creators didn’t want to waste any money making it look fancy. They wanted to make it work in all climates and regions. Misson accomplished, again.
The Ultra Bike comes equipped with a LiFePo4 battery pack, a waterproof source of energy that can survive temperatures of -20°C up to 60°C. When the 1.6kWh battery pack has a full charge, you’ll only be able to get around 64km out of the Ultra Bike. This probably doesn’t fill you with hope, but the creators thought of a solution.
Right where you’d expect to find a traditional fuel tank, you’ll find a gasoline generator instead. While running, the generator can produce 800W, which is apparently enough to keep the battery pack charging while you drive.
Robo Systems had to find somewhere else to store fuel since the fuel tanks regular spot was taken. They managed to put some in the rims of the gigantic tyres the Ultra Bike is sporting. Each ‘tank’ can hold a little more than 20l.
Going the distance
Now you know what’s inside, it’s time to see what it can do. The Ultra Bike only has a top speed of 48kph, which is decent when offroading. But if you’re looking for a faster bike on land, don’t buy one made to drive on water.
Of course, people who own this thing will be clambering to get it onto the water. Before you get wet, you need to make sure it’s set to amphibious mode. You’ll need to purchase the set of floatables separately, which need a compressor to inflate them. The Ultra Bike will get you across water, maybe not as quickly as you’d like, but it’ll do it.
If you’d like to purchase this bike for yourself, you can. Robo Systems has launched the bike on Indiegogo – which claims to have your bike delivered by October this year. You can also buy it directly through Robo Systems website, right here. According to the website store, you can purchase the Ultra Bike for $1990 which equates to around R30,800. There’s also shipping and import taxes to consider, along with all the extra gear you can buy.
While we doubt the Ultra Bike will become a common vehicle, it’s great to see companies build cool stuff.Who knows what’s next, a drivable plane perhaps?
