A search-by-date feature is being tested for WhatsApp

More people than you’d think don’t delete their WhatsApp messages, for a large variety of reasons. Maybe they’re keeping an informal record of some kind of business arrangement, or a collection of all the messages their significant other sent them (and never got around to purging after the relationship took a nose-dive out of a plane without a parachute). Whatever the case may be, plenty of folks have loads of messages stored on their devices. Searching for specific information can be quite a chore, hence why WhatsApp is looking into a new search feature.

Looking for group (messages)

A search-by-date feature is currently being tested by WhatsApp and it’s expected to do exactly what you think it will. Rather than opening the search option and trying different words you think might be relevant in helping you pinpoint the conversation you’re looking for, you’ll be able to search for specific dates that messages were sent. Which is ideal if you have a comprehensive memory of when you sent messages rather than their content. If you’re not some kind of savant then we don’t know how useful this feature will actually be.

This news comes out of WABetaInfo and indicates that the new search feature will include a calendar next to the chat box to help highlight the specific date you’re looking for. Certainly helpful if you’re a visual thinker.

Oh, and it would be poor form of us to not mention the other nugget of news found by WABetaInfo: storage management. This new tab will allow you to figure out how much space a specific chat is occupying on your device and allow you to properly organise how much memory your chats are consuming. Handy indeed!
