Woolworths launches WConnect, its new online tech store

Woolworths' WConnect section

If you thought there were already too many choices for buying tech online, Woolworths thought we could do with one more option. WConnect is a newly ‘launched’ section of the retail outlet’s online offering, dedicated to selling various tech devices and accessories from well-known brands like Apple, Hisense, Honor, Huawei, Nokia, Samsung, Sony, and Xiaomi.

WConnect can be accessed via Woolworths’ website or smartphone app (Android, iOS, Huawei). Although, given its recency, you may need to update your app first.

“With over 100 Connect counters across the country, you can now shop Woolworths WConnect online. From handset (sic) to screen protectors, covers, chargers, power banks, earbuds and headsets, we’ve got all your tech accessories covered,” reads a welcome message on the new page.

On both the website and the app, the WConnect section features categories for the different kinds of tech on offer, including wearable tech, smartphones and their accessories, laptops and tablets, and gaming consoles.

It is also currently offering special deals on Honor and Huawei handsets with discounts of “up to” R500 until 30 June and R800 until 31 July respectively. These, and seemingly every other brand of smartphone available, come with a free ‘gift’. However upon closer inspection, and before anyone gets excited, those ‘gifts’ are free SIM cards from MTN or Vodacom.

If you find yourself needing a new smartphone, laptop, or gaming console, now you can have it delivered to your house along with your groceries and clothes. Thanks, Woolworths… we guess. If you’d prefer to touch and feel your tech before you make a purchase, you can find a list of stores that will ‘get you connected’ right here.
