The Apple Watch Ultra 2 costs R21,000 and the Watch Series 9 gets almost as expensive

Apple Watch Ultra 2

Apple’s fancy new wearables are about to descend on South Africa. Pre-orders start today and buyers will net a six-month subscription to ReactPlus, an on-device panic button that will summon help no matter where you are. But first you need to afford the Apple Watch Ultra 2 or the Watch Series 9 and they’re… not going to be cheap.

Apple’s Watch Ultra 2: Mega Ultra pricing

Last year, the Watch Ultra launched at the princely (no, really) sum of R20,000. It’s just had its first price drop, to R17,000, but the Watch Ultra 2? That’s climbed a little over last year’s price and will set you back R21,000. It’s probably worth it if you’re after the features Apple is promoting.

The Series 9 is more of a mixed bag since it arrives in 41mm and 45mm editions. There are two case options too, meaning that the GPS+cellular version of the 45mm stainless steel Series 9 will set you back R19,800. It’s not all bad, though. The standard aluminium GPS Series 9 starts at R10,500 for the 41mm and R11,350 for the 45mm. That’s… almost affordable but expect price jumps the moment you stick cellular capability in there.
