Today we laid eyes on the South African prices for a range of iPhone 14s, with one model crossing the R40,000 mark. Fortunately, the new Apple Watch Series 8 and Watch SE won’t set you back quite as far. They’re still not cheap but you’ll still have enough of your salary left over to grab a loaf of bread. If not, the watch will help you count down the days until the 25th.
South Africa hasn’t received pricing for the Apple Watch Ultra just yet, but we’re sure that’ll be a big one (assuming it arrives). Since US pricing goes as high as $800 (around R14,000), we’re sure local pricing won’t be kind.
SEeing is believing
Of the two Apple Watches available, the SE is definitely the beginner’s watch. That’s not to say it’s bad, it’s just not as kitted out as the Series 8. Expect a couple of choices when it comes to the Watch SE. You can pick between a 40mm or 44mm screen size, with the option of GPS or Cellular to go with it.
The cheapest SE out there is the SE 40mm screen with GPS built-in. These will set you back R6,000. There are three colours to choose from: Starlight, Midnight and Silver.
The SE 44mm Watch with built-in GPS is a bit more costly. Those four extra millimetres cost R700, bringing the total up to R6,700. You’ll have the same choice of colours as the 40mm version.
For a 40mm SE with GPS and cellular built-in, expect to pay R7,200. You’re limited to Starlight for this one. To go GPS + cellular with a 44mm screen, you’ll need R7,900. Once again, only one colour is available: Midnight.

Watching the Series 8
There are two types of Apple Watch Series 8, the 41mm and 45mm models. All have GPS, some support LTE, and all of them are expensive. But you already knew that.
First up is the 41mm GPS Series 8. That will cost you R9,600. You have a choice of Midnight, Product Red, Starlight and Silver.
Next, the 45mm GPS Series 8. This one will set you back R10,500. Unless you opt for a White model. That’ll cost R10,300. Don’t ask us why, that’s just how it is. For the other shades, you can pick from Midnight, Starlight or Product Red.

A 41mm LTE Watch? You’ll be expected to pay R12,000. No Product Red this time around – only Starlight, Midnight and Silver. Lastly, we have the 45mm LTE device. Here, you’ll be paying R12,700, the most expensive of Apple’s newest Watches (so far). Silver and Midnight are the only choices.
