WhatsApp to stop working on 43 devices, including the iPhone 6S and SE

WhatsApp

Everyone’s favourite messaging app regularly decides to disappoint some users equipped with older smartphones. WhatsApp rolls out app updates every now and then, bringing with them increased functionality and useful bits and pieces like cross-platform transfers.

This means some smartphones might not be able to handle the latest version of the app — the same is true for around 43 smartphones come 1 November 2021.

WhatsApp dropped in a snap

New reports detail that WhatsApp will stop functioning on many older smartphones, including three iPhone models that are still very popular in rotation — the iPhone 6S, SE and 6S Plus devices.

The 6S device range isn’t all that old, and released in 2015. Even more, they’re all slated to get the iOS15 treatment soon, which means you won’t necessarily lose access to your favourite green messaging app.

WhatsApp’s limitations on older devices are really only affected by the software loaded on that device. On its updated FAQ page, the company details that Android devices running OS 4.1 and newer, iPhones running iOS 10 and newer and anything currently on KaiOS 2.5.1 and newer will support its newest update.

So, as long as your device can update beyond the aforementioned operating system versions, you’ll be fine. That includes anyone currently on one of the affected iPhones — just make sure to update your software, friends. You’ll be fine. A full list of affected devices can be found in the source link below.
