Marvel said Endgame was the most ambitious crossover of all time. Mojang and Sega would like someone to hold their low-poly beers. Sonic the Hedgehog, the fastest mammal alive, is now officially in Minecraft. As part of his 30th birthday celebration, you can now purchase official Sonic DLC for one of the most played games in the world.

Now, Sonic’s definitely been in Minecraft before. There’s a mod for everything, after all. But there’s something enticing about the glamour and polish of official DLC

Now, you’re not just getting a blue hedgehog themed skin for your money. No, you’re getting a little bit of everything. The DLC lets you play as a handful of characters, like the Blue Blur himself, Amy Rose, Knuckles, Shadow, and Tails. The character models are spot-on too, if a little blocky. Additionally, you’ll get access to a character creator item so that you can bring your Tumblr Sonic OC to life in Minecraft. Which is all anyone’s ever wanted, really.

The DLC also includes some classic levels like Green Hill Zone and Angel Island transformed into Minecraft-style infinite runners, with classic bosses to defeat. You can take them on solo, or duke it out with friends. And yes — there are rings.

Finally, there’s also a two-week long server special event chock full of mini-games and festive celebrations, plus “something special” happening on one of the weekends.

It’s a cool, if a little surprising crossover. Our only hope is that it plays better than Sonic ‘06. Who are we kidding, of course it does.
