It’s finally happening. The moment everyone on the entire planet has waited their entire lives for… is here. A new Tamagotchi has arrived. For the 25th anniversary of the Tamagotchi, the original creator Bandai is releasing a wearable version of its electronic companion.
This time around you don’t need to spend the whole day worrying that, when you get back late after school because you had sport and detention, your beloved electronic friend has died from hunger or lack of attention. Now, you can carry them around your wrist wherever you go. In a meeting and don’t have time to give them attention? No problem! Just use the built-in microphone to call out to them. You’re already talking so no big deal. On a conference call and can’t talk? No problem! Use the LCD touchscreen to give them some love.

So we’ve already established that you want one. Sadly, right now, you’ll need to enter a lottery for the chance to win one. Entries are open between 17th June – 2nd July and the winners will be announced later in July. For the unlucky among us, they will go on sale in Japan on 23rd November and will cost around 6,380 yen (R816) but there’s no word yet on if they will release internationally. Additionally, you’ll also be able to buy add-ons to give your device a unicorn or rainbow theme. We’ll be going with rainbow if they ever come out here.
Let’s just hope this doesn’t become another target of the ever-growing onslaught of attacks on wearable tech. Since it’s not really connected (its major feature, besides the digital creature on your wrist, is a 30-hour USB-rechargeable battery), it should be safe. Unless you let it die, you monster you.
