If you’re one of those folk who put a premium on having a blue tick next to your Twitter profile, rejoice!
Twitter has announced that it’s reopened its application process for verification for the first time since 2017. In a blog post, the social media platform said that it will begin rolling out the application process over the next few weeks.
Twitter suspended its verification process back in 2017 after it was roundly slammed for giving a blue tick to the account belonging to right-wing activist Jason Kessler. Kessler was the bloke who organised the the rally in Charlottesville in that year, which was attended by white supremacists. In the years since, only high profile accounts could apply for verification, but now the process is being reopened to the public.

So how does one go about getting their account verified?
Well, according to to the blog post you have to fit the criteria from one of the following categories.
- Government
- Companies, brands and organisations
- News organisations and journalists
- Entertainment

- Activists, organisers, and other influential individuals
On top of that, your account must be complete. What this means is that you need:

Your account must also be have been active within the last six months and you have to have played nicely on the platform – that is, you had better have been obeying Twitter’s code of conduct.
