Easter surprise from Vodacom in the shape of data price cuts

Vodacom left this a little late in the day today but we kinda understand why — it’s 1 April (for a while yet). Too early in the day and you might take it a little less seriously. The mobile network is dropping prices for some of its 30-day data packages, altering allocations for others and introducing one new one.

The reasoning? To further digital inclusion for all, apparently, but also, it’s good business.

Nice one, Vodacom

The data packages being changed range between the 150MB bundle and the 1GB bundle — there’s also a 2GB bundle which will cost users R159 — that’s coming back after being away for a while. The company’s 150MB bundle is being raised to 200MB, for the same R29 price. Voda’s 325MB bundle rises to 350MB, and the price is dropping from R55 to R49. Both the 500MB and 1GB bundles are getting a price drop: 500MB falls from R79 to R69, and the 1GB package from R99 to R89.

Jorge Mendes, head of Vodacom’s consumer business division, said, “Our aim in reducing these prices is to ensure customers are constantly connected on SA’s leading network. Our purpose is to connect for a better future and ensure that no one is left behind in this new digital age. It is one of the most critical ways we believe we can create a more equal society for all.”
