Dota 2 is now a Netflix anime series, set to air on 25 March this year

Dota 2 series

If you were there at the beginning, swapping “files” at a LAN in between bouts of Warcraft 3 mod Defence of the Ancients (bet Blizzard feels a little silly right about now), could you have guessed that the eventual standalone game, Dota 2, would receive its own TV show?

Of course not, you were probably a stupid teenager then and Netflix wasn’t even around. But that’s just what’s happened. Dota 2 has been converted into an anime series (because what else would you do with it?), one that’s set to broadcast on Netflix from 25 March this year.

One way to play Dota 2 (on your TV)

The eight-episode series, called Dota: Dragon’s Blood, is being made in conjunction with Valve, which means we’re only going to get two seasons and then they’ll tease us for decades with the possibility of a third. The first trailer is above and it… doesn’t look awful at all.

The series concerns “…Davion, a renowned Dragon Knight devoted to wiping the scourge from the face of the world. Following encounters with a powerful, ancient eldwurm as well as the noble Princess Mirana on a secret mission of her own, Davion becomes embroiled in events much larger than he could have ever imagined.”

Which sounds about as anime as you can get for a fantasy series. The animation is being done by Studio MIR, best known for The Legend of Korra. Check it out next month, maybe?
