You don’t need this laptop with seven screens… but you still want it

How many screens are too many screens? According to Expanscape, the limit on screens is seven, which if you ask us feels excessive but also looks really cool. The prototype device, named the Aurora 7, looks like something out of a ’90s action movie starring Sylvester Stallone as some sort of time-travelling cop (you know the one).

The actual body of the computer is a chunky black box with a back monitor, like any laptop, but it also features six other screens that bleed out from the back. Each one is capable of showing its own windows and programs and it all just feels excessive but so cool a the same time.

Don’t get us wrong, this thing looks clunky as Hell yet the actual screens themselves seem to be on unexpectedly high quality. The main screen on the back of the keyboard is a 17.3in, 4K display. The three screens attached to that main display are the same specs while the two screens popping out on top of the left and right monitors clock in at 7in, 1200p resolution. Down below, you’ll also have a 7in, 1200p display embedded in the wrist rest below the keyboard. That’s more screens than we even know how to use properly!

What’s inside the Aurora 7’s screens?

The biggest question is what is inside this sprawling octopus of a laptop? Well, the actual hardware of the Aurora 7 isn’t all that impressive. The GPU is only an Nvidia GTX 1060 which is a card that’s roughly 5 years old right now. The CPU is a little more impressive, boasting an Intel Core i9-9900K which is running on a whopping 64GB of RAM, which makes sense considering everything this machine needs to juggle. Everscape does intend to build on this design with some beefier specs in the future, including an Nvidia RTX 2070.

We doubt this is a device that’s being marketed towards gamers (unless you want your HUD displayed across six different monitors, which sounds pretty dumb, honestly). The worst part of the Aurora 7 is the battery life: The laptop can’t hold a charge for longer than an hour before being plugged in, which makes sense given that the 148Wh needs to power so many screens.

Will this monstrous device actually see the light of day? Expanscape says that it intends to sell the device and interested parties can reserve a prototype before the official launch. You’re just not allowed to share how much it costs based on the nondisclosure agreement customers need to sign. So that means the Aurora 7 likely costs at least three “yikes”.
