eSIM is such a cool, important thing that it’s wild to use that MTN has taken this long to roll it out. Fortunately for everyone on a Samsung or an iPhone, MTN has announced that eSIM support is on the way alongside a host of tweaks and performances to the service. So what exactly is an eSIM? Well, it’s an embedded sim card that’s included in a compatible code that’s simply activated by scanning the card and having your eSIM profile downloaded onto the device.

“The digital journey of MTN customers takes another leap forward with the addition of embedded SIM (eSIM) connections on selected smartphones this month and the inclusion of eSIM connections for selected Apple smartwatches from 15 December 2020,” said MTN, according to MyBroadband.

So what devices support MTN’s eSIM?

Well, it’s a fairly comprehensive list of both Samsung devices and Apple iPhones. We’ve got the whole list of compatible devices right here:

Oh, and if you plan on getting in on the iPhone 12 when that eventually launches in South Africa in December or a Samsung S30 in the future, don’t panic because both devices will support the MTN eSIM.

eSIMs are incredibly useful because they allow multiple SIM profiles on a single device. It’s great for folks who want multiple SIM cards but are stuck with phones that don’t cater to such purposes on the hardware front.

“This is ideal for anyone who may require an additional number for travel or business. You can store multiple contract profiles on a single device, switching between them with ease to manage your lifestyle,” said MTN executive for corporate affairs Jacqui O’Sullivan.
