There’s not a lot of things worthwhile that cost forty bucks anymore. But now Netflix is making its entire library of content available to more South Africans through two new mobile-focused plans.
What this means, is that you’ll now be able to sign up for a mobile-only Netflix package for less than a full subscription — which runs R100 a month for the cheapest one. The subscriptions are called Mobile and Mobile+, with Mobile coming in at R40 a month, and Mobile+ at just R60 a month. Both are far cheaper than the other options, but there’s a reason for that.
With these mobile plans, you won’t be able to use the Netflix app on a TV or on a set-top box, for example. They’re only eligible to work on mobile phones. With the Mobile subscription, you’ll only be able to stream Netflix on a mobile phone (Android or iOS) at 480p resolutions, while Mobile+ will allow you to stream on either a mobile phone or a laptop at the same resolution.
Other than that, you’ll just be capped to stream at 480p resolution, which is fine if you’re on a mobile phone, honestly. And for just R40 a month? That’s a steal.
