Deezer adds South African radio stations to its lineup

Music streaming service Deezer is adding South African radio stations to their ‘Live Radio’ lineup, with plans to add even more in the future.

If you’re not into Spotify or Apple Music, you’re likely subscribed to Deezer. It could be described as the ‘underdog’ in the music streaming space but, weirdly, a range of wearables have Deezer capability. The service is available on Android Wear, Apple Watch OS, Tizen, Xiaomi’s Mi wearables and Garmin’s fitness devices.

Now Deezer subscribers can listen to Jacaranda FM and East Coast Radio via the service. These stations are available on the ‘live radio’ channel, where popular radio stations are displayed and others are searchable. If you want to bring a little South African DJ action on your run with you (or to a Bluetooth speaker, if you’re the stationary sort), now that’s a possibility.

According to a statement by Deezer Africa’s Gillian Ezra, “Music lovers in South Africa now have the option to listen to their Flow, stream their favourite artists and listen to the hottest playlists, as well as access their favourite local radio shows.”

We’ll see Deezer adding more stations, including local ones, to their live radio channel over time. Hopefully we’ll see the likes of MixFM and some Kfm for the Capetonians.
