Apple vs. Samsung – Both companies agree to mediation attempt before next patent clash

Apple and Samsung have been involved in a series of patent disputes for a considerably long time but the latest development has shown a little light at the end of the tunnel.

Both companies have agreed to an attempt at mediation, according a report by Reuters, which will be attended by Apple CEO Tim Cook, Samsung CEO Oh-Hyun Kwon and their respective in-house lawyers. Reuters located a court filing which gives details of the mediation session. The session itself is set to take place before 19 February and the two company’s lawyers met earlier this week to “discuss settlement opportunities”.

The two-year long patent battle has cost both Apple and Samsung a large amount of money and Samsung has been subject to several monetary penalties as a result of the legal action so a settlement may be something that both parties are interested in at this point. Mediation has been attempted before but the results so far have only led to more court appearances. Hopefully this time it’s a little different.
