Ubisoft’s Watch_Dogs, The Crew delayed until 2014

Several gamers who were particularly keen on a certain game are going to have a disappointing Festive season. Ubisoft have just announced that Watch_Dogs, one of the most anticipated games for this year, has been delayed until 2014. Another title from the publisher, The Crew, has also been delayed.

The open-world techno-thriller was due to launch in November this year but the game has been pushed back to “spring 2014”. Engadget reports that both delayed titles will be launching some time after 1 April 2014, in Ubisoft’s new fiscal year.

The reasoning behind the delay, according to a follow-up blog post from the Ubisoft team working on the game, is to “…take the extra time to polish and fine tune each detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience.”

Based on the gameplay which has been seen Ubisoft is being very ambitious with regards to the title and releasing a game that the team isn’t completely confident in could prove disastrous for what will turn into a series of releases in future. Watch_Dogs was likely to have been one of the first choices for many gamers, international and local, to procure for Sony and Microsoft’s next generation consoles but it unfortunately won’t be around for the launch of those consoles. The delay as it stands seems understandable however.

To try and soften the blow (or more likely: make it worse), here is the Watch_Dogs DedSec trailer from Gamescom again.
