Eskom plans to keep the country on Stage 2 until something changes

Eskom Stage 2

Eskom has a plan for the country’s power situation. Not so much how to fix it, but how severe it will be for the near future. Stage 1 and 2 load shedding are on the cards until Tuesday morning.

After that, the state power utility plans to keep South Africa on Stage 2 load shedding during the evenings until further notice. So at least (some of) the traffic lights will be working as you head to work this week.

Take to the Stage 2

You know it’s been a dismal time of late when Stage 2 load shedding feels like a break. Yet, that’s just what will happen, disaster/sabotage pending. The country will experience Stage 1 load shedding until 16:00 today. After that, Stage 2 kicks in from 16:00 until 05:00 the following morning.

From Tuesday, 29 November, South Africa will (in theory) experience no load shedding during the day. From 16:00 to 05:00 however, Stage 2 will come to haunt your leisure hours. The plan is valid until further notice but there’s always the possibility that matters will improve. Or get worse.

At the moment, 5,032MW of power capacity is down as a result of planned maintenance. Unplanned maintenance accounts for 16,390MW of outages at present.
