The best from Ubisoft Forward: Assassin’s Creed, Assassin’s Creed and more… Assassin’s Creed

Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Forward Event took place this past weekend, revealing a plethora of announcements involving upcoming games and DLCs. There were even a couple of Netflix announcements thrown in, but we’ll get to that later. First, let’s look at not one, but five Assassin’s Creed games announced at the event.

A new Prince of Persi… oh

It’s been a minute since we last had a new Assassin’s Creed game to dig into. Well, not really – but considering Ubisoft’s regular release schedule for the franchise, a two-year gap isn’t something you’d expect. Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the first of the many upcoming Assassin’s Creed titles in the works.

The big question about any Creed game is its setting. Mirage was confirmed to take place in Baghdad, only twenty years before the events of Valhalla. We’ll be following Basim Ibn Ishaq – which is all we know about the story for now. Ubisoft Bordeaux, the developer behind Mirage, stated that it would head back to Assassin’s Creed’s roots – stealth, parkour, and assassinations.

Mirage is set to release in 2023.

Assassin’s Creed forever

We’ve heard news of Assassin’s Creed Infinity before now. Infinity isn’t a game as a whole, but rather a “hub” that looks to be the future of Assassin’s Creed. It’ll let players explore and jump into games directly from the hub, though we don’t much about how it’ll work. What we do know is that two games were announced for Infinity; Codename Red and Codename Hexe.

As for what we know about either Codename title, the answer is not much. We know Codename Red will take place in Feudal Japan and… that’s it. Even less is known about Codename Hexe. Ubisoft said this one would be “a very different type of Assassin’s Creed game.” Thanks, Ubisoft. It’s suspected that it’ll involve pagan Britain during the Roman occupation.

No release dates were mentioned for either title. We can guess they’re remain absent until at least 2024.

Another Codename

Codename Jade – yes, another Codename title – is an upcoming mobile Assassin’s Creed game set in Ancient China. We know it’ll be open-world and feature “classic” Assassin’s Creed gameplay. There won’t be a traditional main character, letting the user create their own assassin for the first time ever.

Codename Jade’s release won’t be in 2022, though a 2023 release is possible if development goes smoothly.

When will Netflix learn?

Assassin's Creed

No. We’re still not done with the Assassin’s Creed news. Ubisoft and Netflix are partnering on multiple projects, the most notable of which is an Assassin’s Creed live-action series adaptation. We don’t know whether the show will follow a new story or one of the game’s storylines.

The show wasn’t the only news about the partnership. Three mobile games for the Netflix platform, one set in the Assassin’s Creed universe. The other two mobile games show us a sequel to Valiant Hearts. We’re also getting a second Mighty Quest installment.

No release dates were revealed for the mobile games. The live-action show also remains mysterious.

The rest

There were a couple of other announcements for some of Ubisoft’s already on-the-way games. We learned that Rayman is coming to Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope in the form of DLC. The game is set to hit Switch stores on 20 October, just over a month away.

If you thought you’d read the words ‘Assassin’s Creed’ for the last time today, think again. Instead of yet another full-blown game, Ubisoft announced a DLC coming to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, titled ‘The Last Chapter’. This will seemingly be the game’s final DLC before Ubisoft turns its full attention to future titles.

The free DLC will tie up any loose ends of Eivor’s story and will release before 2022 wraps up.

After years of being held hostage on PC, Trackmania is at long last heading to consoles sometime in 2023. It’ll include cross-play and is releasing for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Stadia, and Amazon’s Luna. We’d feel sorry for you Switch players out there, but you’ve got Breath of the Wild 2 on the way. You’re already better off.
