Over 12,000 FNB customers have used Udemy to learn new skills

Over the past three months, a partnership between FNB and Udemy has proved to be a valuable asset to over 12,000 FNB customers. Through the FNB app, customers are given a discounted selection of 400 courses. Each course costs R50 and customers are limited to six courses per year. Better yet, it’s possible to pay for them using stored-up eBucks.

If you aren’t aware, Udemy is a platform that offers training courses on all manner of lessons. Guitar lessons? Check. Writing? Of course. Amongst FNB’s customers, courses in Excel, project management, public speaking, and computer programming have proved a hit.

Udemy and FNB

According to Graeme Parsons, Business Support Head at eBucks: “We’ve had an incredible take-up and our customers now also trust us to help them achieve their goals with new skills through a digital learning solution. Providing affordable access to online learning is part of a range of lifestyle solutions that are helping customers beyond traditional financial services.”

You could argue that price and convenience have been the driving factors behind the 12,000-strong userbase using Udemy. This is the first time that Udemy has built a mobile ‘experience’ directly for a partner’s app. FNB customers needn’t go through Udemy’s platform directly. They might be more likely to sign up via something they use more frequently. And at R50 a pop, why not add a little extra education?

It’s possible that FNB and Udemy could see this as an opportunity to expand their partnership. At the moment, neither company has confirmed any expansion, but it’s hard to see why they wouldn’t. Udemy could offer more courses to FNB’s customers, enticing a larger audience to the platform.

Next time you’re on the FNB app, why not give a course a whirl? You could come out of it with a new skill or two.
