FC Barcelona’s soccer stadium will now be known as Spotify Camp Nou

Barcelona FC Spotify

Spotify has finally made enough money to be able to sponsor a soccer team. And not, like, Coventry City or Liverpool. A real soccer team. FC Barcelona is the team that’s, er… teamed up with the music streaming service.

The sponsorship includes both shirt and stadium branding and kicks off from the 2022/2023 season. It’ll run over four seasons.

No penalty for Barcelona

FC Barcelona’s stadium, Camp Nou, is undergoing a name change as a result of the deal. It’ll now be known as Spotify Camp Nou. The streaming service is the first sponsor to secure naming rights for the soccer stadium. In addition, Spotify’s name will appear on player jerseys for the duration of the contract.

The soccer team said, “The vision for the partnership is to create a new platform to help artists interact with FC Barcelona’s global community of fans.” So there’s bound to be a podcast or seventeen involved as well.

The terms of the deal haven’t been officially detailed, but a Spanish news agency reports that the deal is worth a lofty R4.6 billion (€280 million).

Spotify said it “…has never undertaken a partnership at this scale before, but we realised that the magic is approaching ambitious projects at this scale. We’ve always used our marketing as a platform for artists, so it’s adding another huge stage, literally a stadium, to help artists interact with fans around the world.”
