TymeBank launched in South Africa in 2018. At the time (heh), it billed itself as SA’s first digital-only bank. Now it’s time for something a little different. TymeHealth is set to be an app-based medical insurance offering from the company.
The service aims to offer private medical care to people who might not have been able to afford it previously. Plans from TymeHealth will start at R140/m and signing up is… pretty easy.
Making time for your TymeHealth
There are three plans available to users, all of which may be accessed by signing up via the company’s app. MediClub Connect (R140/m) is the basic plan and offers coverage for GP diagnosis (via WhatsApp), basic pathology, radiology, and dentistry, as well as acute medication. Plus a handful of other nifty things like an HIV benefit and emergency transportation coverage.
MediClub Premier (R300/m) has all of the previous benefits, plus chronic medication, specialist, optometry, and accidental hospitalisation and death benefits. MediClub Elite (R400/m) increases how much the accidental death and hospitalisation coverage pays out in the event either takes place.
TymeHealth is available from TymeBank’s app on the Google Play Store, Apple’s App Store, or Huawei’s App Gallery. Once coverage kicks in, users gain access to a network of 12,000 South African medical professionals.
Dischem also joins in
DisChem also has a similar medical insurance scheme in the offing. Called DisChem Health, there are two plans available. Core coverage costs R431/m for adults and R302/m for kids, but there’s an option to add day-to-day cover for either. Private doctor visits are limited to four a year and there are seven chronic medications covered.
Opting for Plus coverage (and adding the day-to-day benefit) allows for unlimited visits. That’ll cost R591/m (adults) or R406/m (kids). Accident cover can be added as an optional extra. 27 chronic medications and specialist visits are covered by choosing this option.
Or you could spend R185/m (adults) or R100/m (kids) just for some DisChem-branded accident cover. You can find out more at the company’s website.
