The Honor 50 launches in South Africa for R14,000

About a month ago, Honor confirmed its latest handset, the 50, would make its way to a few target countries, including South Africa. The handset launched in China earlier this year ahead of its global tour. South Africans will now be able to get their hands on the mid-ranger for R14,000.

The 50 is one of the first devices to launch in the country with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G chipset. We’ll soon see Honor’s ex-parent company’s latest device, the Nova 9, launch with the same chipset. Honor wins this time.

Know where else Honor wins? Its devices land with full Google Mobile Services, which means you’ll have easy access to all your favourite apps, even if they’re prefaced with ‘Google’.

Your specs, your Honor

Another standout feature on the 50 is its display, especially in this price range. It’s fitted with a curved 6.57in FHD OLED display, complete with a 120Hz refresh rate and 300Hz touch-sampling rate. In addition, you’ll get a 66W fast-charger in the box (unlike some other smartphone brands), that’ll effortlessly charge up the 4,300mAh battery.

Around back, it’s equipped with a massive 108MP main camera sensor, supported by an 8MP wide-angle sensor, a 2MP macro sensor, and a 2MP depth cam. Up front, you’ll have access to a 32MP selfie cam.

The Honor 50’s processor is backed up by 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage and comes in two colour variations: Frost Crystal and Midnight Black. This one will retail for R14,000 in South Africa from 26 November, and’ll be available from MTN, Cell C, Telkom Mobile, and selected retail stores. Honor will include a pair of Honor Earbuds 2 with all purchases of the 50.
