Xiaomi is changing its branding – no more Mi devices

Xiaomi globally

A few weeks ago, Xiaomi launched another of its top smartphones, the Mi Mix 4, only the ‘Mi’ part was absent from its banding. So now, it’ll just be called the ‘Xiaomi Mix 4’. It turns out this wasn’t a mistake or a one-time occurrence, but a deliberate omission. This will be the company’s direction for all future releases.

No more Mi for Xiaomi

In a statement to XDA-developers, the Chinese manufacturer said that the change will take effect from Q3 2021. The company said this change “will unify our global brand presence and close the perception gap between the brand and its products.”

While this change might seem like a big deal to anyone who has followed the company’s rise through the ranks of global smartphone makers, we think it might make things less confusing. Along with the whole ‘unity of global brand’ thing.

Previously, the brands under which it categorised its products were Mi, Redmi and Poco. Now that’s changing to Xiaomi, Redmi and Poco. So not all that big of a deal then.

And, just to be clear, the change will only affect upcoming products and not existing ones. So, then the Mi 11 will stay the Mi 11? Maybe. Probably. But the Xiaomi 12 will definitely be just that. Unless the company decides to change things up again. We don’t think they will though, seeing as this change took 12 years to come about.
