Sony announces PS5 event for this Wednesday, price expected to be revealed

PS5

The final stretch is here, folks! We’re entering the last leg of the next-gen console race and things are looking more heated than ever. With Microsoft getting out in front of Sony in the last week, announcing the price of the Xbox Series S and Series X as well as establishing the finish line on 10 November, the ball has now landed in the lap of Sony and its PlayStation 5. What kind of race involves balls being thrown back and forth? A complicated one that involves plenty of mixed metaphors. Not taking the news of Xbox pricing lying down, Sony has decided to even the odds as the company has announced a PS5 event this week and we’re expecting all the important details to be unveiled.

Announced this Saturday, Sony’s latest PlayStation 5 showcase is set to air on 16 September and will take the form of a 40-minute presentation described as, “one more look at some of the great games coming to PS5 at launch (and beyond!)”. That’s a pretty broad way to summarise the event but I’m willing to bet that we’ll get a better look at Spider-Man: Miles Morales, a game which is expected to launch alongside the PlayStation 5 as well as the Demon’s Souls remake which has been rumoured to be a launch title for some time too.

Sony is also expected to finally reveal the price of the main PlayStation 5 console as well as the smaller, disc-less version alongside a firm release date. Given the hype and excitement around the pricing of the Xbox Series X and Series S coming in slightly cheaper than everyone was expecting, Sony’s been placed in a difficult situation as we’re almost certain the new PlayStation won’t be cheaper. We’ll just have to wait and see what news Wednesday brings. Honestly, just show off more footage of a new Spider-Man game and we’ll be more than satisfied.
