As much as we’re all waiting in anticipation to see the final version of the upcoming PlayStation console, we won’t see it announced at E3 2020. Just like last year, the company decided that it won’t attend the gaming conference this year, with a more ‘global’ strategy in mind.
In 2019, Sony was a no-show at the gaming industry’s event of the year. And it looks like it’ll do the same this year. In a statement to GamesIndustry.biz, the folks at PlayStation explained that “After a thorough evaluation, SIE has decided not to participate in E3 2020. We have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year.”
We’re in a ‘State’ of Play
Last year, Sony relied more on its own ‘State of Play’ live streams to announce new and upcoming titles. But that doesn’t mean it won’t have any presence at E3. With the help of third-party developers, new PlayStation exclusives are bound to steal the show. The only thing we’ll really miss is an official announcement of its next-gen console, the PlayStation 5.
In 2019, we saw its competitor, Microsoft, reveal its next-gen console (the Xbox Series X) at The Game Awards. We highly doubt Sony will do the same this year, as the PS5 official launch is planned for the end of 2020. Maybe this is the first year we see PlayStation Con?
