Netflix adds another Marvel show to the cancelled pile – Daredevil is no more

It’s proving to be a tough time for fans of Netflix’s Marvel shows — another series has been axed. Blind lawyer Matt Murdock’s Daredevil has been retired, according to an announcement by the streaming company. The most recent season, Season 3, is officially the series’ last.

This makes Daredevil the third Marvel series to be canned in as many months. Iron Fist was knocked out after two seasons and Luke Cage got the chop shortly afterwards, also after two seasons. There are only two shows left in this particular stable — Jessica Jones and The Punisher.

Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix. We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note, Netflix told Deadline. “We’re thankful to our partners at Marvel, showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we’re grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years”

However, it seems that the character isn’t gone for good. Netflix also told Deadline that “While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel.” This leaves the door open for Charlie Cox’s ass-kicking attorney to show up elsewhere — perhaps in Marvel’s films or maybe in a Disney-produced series broadcast on the mouse company’s new streaming service.

The fate of Netflix’s remaining Marvel shows remains uncertain. We haven’t heard any dates concerning a new season of The Punisher or Jessica Jones just yet…
