Apple better worry – Huawei’s Mate 20 Pro costs R19,000, pre-orders open tomorrow

Apple unveiled more smartphones than usual for 2018 but the price… oh, the price is the thing. And they might be in trouble, as Huawei unveiled their camera-rrific Mate 20 Pro at an event in Johannesburg this evening and the Chinese company’s new flagship comes in at just R19,000 if you’re grabbing it pre-paid. The XS, if you remember, starts at R22,000.

And Huawei have decided to sweeten the deal as well. Pre-orders for the device open from tomorrow, 24 October, and run through till 31 October. If you put in a pre-order, you’ll also snag a Huawei Watch GT (priced at R5,500) free of charge. Until Huawei runs out of stock, that is.

If you’re more the contract type, Huawei also detailed the contract options that will be available. If you favour Vodacom or MTN you’ll be paying R800pm over 24 months, if you’re on Telkom’s network it’s just R700pm over 24 months and if you’re on Cell C you’re looking at R1,400pm x 24. What Huawei didn’t mention was the actual type of contract you’re getting, so we’ll run that info down for you as soon as we’re able.
