Sharpen your swords, because The Elder Scrolls is back again (and it’s not Skyrim)

You’re probably knee-deep in The Elder Scrolls Online: Summerset at the moment, but ready your drive space for two new Elder Scrolls additions, freshly announced by Bethesda Softworks at E3 2018.

VI

Bethesda officially announced the sixth instalment in its long-running Elder Scrolls series, known at this point only as The Elder Scrolls VI. The teaser video is as cryptic as they could possibly make it, giving away pretty much nothing. What is present is a flyover of (what we guess is) a small fragment of the environment.

There is one thing we do know — the new Elder Scrolls has been confirmed by Bethesda and will feature an expansive environment with mountains, wilderness and probably all manner of things that’ll kill you — in true Scrolls fashion. And we think that it might not be released on the Xbox One or PlayStation 4. Bethesda’s Todd Howard called this one “next-gen”, which could mean that the engine has had a dramatic overhaul… or that it’s going to be releasing on the PS5 and Xbox-Whatever. It’s too soon to tell, though, so we’re waiting on more info.

This game has probably been on the books for a while, but there was no mention of a release date or anything concrete about what the game will actually look like. Still, Bethesda confirming that the game is in development should be enough to get legions of Elder Scrolls fans excited. Maybe now Bethesda will stop re-releasing Skyrim

The Elder Scrolls: Blades

Ever felt like you want to put your Elder Scrolls character in your pocket and take them to work/school? That’s what Bethesda thinks you want to do, so they designed a mobile Scrolls game.

Announced at E3, The Elder Scrolls: Blades is a first-person role-playing game for Android and iOS that will feature console-quality graphics and a variety of combat styles. The story follows the player as a member of the Blades (a.k.a. the Dragonguard or the Imperial Intelligence Service) who is forced into exile after their home is destroyed. You’ll be able to play Blades by tapping the screen or using virtual dual sticks. Combat includes standard melee attacks, ranged attacks, and magical spells. Unusually for an RPG, you’ll also be able to play the game in portrait mode on your phone.

In addition to leveling up your character and enhancing their abilities, you’ll also be able to play a “town-building” mode that lets you create a virtual city. Sims players rejoice!

We’ll see it on mobile devices first, but it will eventually be available for download on PCs, consoles, and virtual reality devices. The game will be free to download on iOS and Android later this year, but you can sign up here for early access and to get an exclusive sword and helmet when the game officially launches.
