That’s it. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 is gone. It’s a shame, too, as we were quite fond of the non-exploding version of the company’s stylus-toting flagship. But Samsung has pulled the plug on its Galaxy Note 7, so those of you with 11 November marked should replace it with something else. We’re not sure what, exactly, but you’ll find something.
Samsung, in a very brief statement to website Engadget, has confirmed the move, saying:
We can confirm the report that Samsung has permanently discontinued the production of Galaxy Note7.
Short and to the point, yes? It’s not exactly unexpected, either. The company has already endured one Note 7 recall and replacement program and they’re just going to be skipping the replacement bit. Well, the replacement-with-another-Note-7 bit, at any rate.
Where Samsung plans to go from here isn’t certain. Odds are very good that their financial results will take a hit in the short term, as the company was expected to ship more than 20 million Galaxy Note 7 phones before the end of this year. Obviously, that’s not going to happen now. They’re keeping mum about future plans but we’d imagine that they’re going to move on to the number 8 as soon as possible. Only… not too soon, we hope. We’d rather Samsung takes their time with the next shipment of phones.
