Macbook South African pricing confirmed

The Core Group, which distributes Apple products in South Africa, has announced that the new 12-inch Macbook will be available for in-store preview from Friday, 8 May 2015, with selected Incredible Connection stores to follow shortly thereafter. Core can’t yet confirm when the new laptop will actually go on sale, but we expect it will be before the end of the month.

Two models of the new laptop will be available in three colours. The first model includes a 1.1GHz processor and a 256GB solid-state hard drive and has a recommended retail price of R18 999. The second includes a 1.2GHz processor and a 512GB solid-state hard drive and has a recommended retail price of R23 999. Both variants will be available in Space Grey, Silver and Gold.

All models include 8GB of RAM and Apple’s Retina Display screen with a resolution of 2304×1440 pixels. The Macbook is the first Apple device to include a USB-C port, which it uses for both peripherals and power. The only other port on the device is a 3.5mm audio jack.

The new MacBook also includes a redesigned keyboard and Apple’s Force Touch trackpad, which is able to register differing amounts of pressure.

Last month Core announced revised pricing for the existing range of Macbook Air and Macbook Pro laptops.
