Huawei may drop the Ascend Mate 3 on us at September event

Huawei Store OpeningHuawei could just have a whole new flagship phone coming in, less than a year before their last handset was revealed to the world. Coming by way of Cult of Android is information concerning an event that the Chinese smartphone maker is planning at this year’s IFA conference in Berlin. The event, scheduled to take place on 4 September (from 15:00 to 16:30, if you want to get highly specific), carries the tag-line “Empowering a future of exciting possibilities”.

Now, that doesn’t tell us a whole lot but the media invitation also says that their announcement will “”Make It Possible” for more people around the world to experience the benefits and joy of enhanced speed, design and personalization in technology”. To be fair, this also isn’t very revealing but the invite is being linked to a possible reveal of the company’s Ascend Mate 3, which would be early if rumour is to be believed.

The specs for the handset, which reportedly leaked recently, have Huawei’s new flagship dropping their screen size to a ‘mere’ 6-inches but adding in an HD display and an octa-core processor called the Hisilicon Kirin 920, 13MP and 5 MP cameras (rear and front) are expected from the device, as is 2GB of RAM and a 4,050mAh battery.

That said, if Huawei is indeed planning on unveiling the Ascend Mate 3 at IFA they’re going to have to introduce something a lot more unusual in order to stand out from the wave of other announcements at the event. They certainly seem confident about whatever they have in store for September.
