Samsung has a smartphone-eschewing smartwatch in the works

Samsung has plans for yet another smartwatch, if reports on the device are accurate. What is supposed to set this bit of wristwear apart from the rest of the product line is that it is being designed with a lack of smartphones in mind – the unnamed smartwatch will be able to make calls without resorting to a connection to a phone.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the Tizen-powered smartwatch will feature space for its own SIM card, adding calling functionality to your arm. Just how people will make and receive calls hasn’t been elaborated on but the watch will have Bluetooth so a paired headset isn’t out of the question. As long as we don’t have to talk to our wrists and then bonk the watch against our ears to hear a reply, we’d be okay with that.

Other features of the watch include a data connection for emails (how you’ll type is uncertain), a camera, a heart-rate monitor and then GPS. It’s thought that Samsung will be making an official announcement in the next couple of months regarding the smartwatch. We’ll keep you posted.
