HTC will be looking at creating mid-range smartphones this year

Smartphone maker HTC didn’t have a very good year in 2013, something that was made obvious by poor sales of some very good devices, the mess that was the HTC First, as well as a few other problems that beset the company.

HTC isn’t going to be taking any of this lying down, if recent comments made by executives are any indication. Speaking to Reuters, company representatives said that they would be exploring options for smartphones at lower price points in a bid for a better response this year.

HTC’s co-founder and Chairwoman Cher Wang said to Reuters “The problem with us last year was we only concentrated on our flagship. We missed a huge chunk of the mid-tier market.”

They won’t be venturing into the world of extremely budget phones however, they’re looking at smartphones priced between $150 (R1,700) and $300 (R3,400).

The company is also planning on tweaking their marketing campaign, though just how they plan to do so hasn’t been explained beyond saying that they will be more aggressive in aiming their devices at consumers.
