Gigabyte’s Aorus gaming notebook is as thin as it is fast

Notebooks designed for gaming have always had one defining feature, especially if you’re looking at a 17-inch model. They’ve always been bulky, which is not hard to understand since there’s a lot of hardware ticking away inside those desktop replacements. But the chunky portable gaming rig may be a thing of the past, if Gigabyte’s Aorus X7 notebook has anything to say about it.

The Aorus X7 is fairly unique among portable gaming laptops in that it measures just 22.9mm through its thickest point. The size isn’t really what is special, the fact that Gigabyte have managed to cram two Nvidia GTX 765M graphics processing units in an SLI configuration into the available space.

The other specifications for the Aorus X7 are equally as impressive as the dual-GPU setup. The 17-3-inch display is a full HD panel, there is a Core i7-4700HQ CPU from Intel running the show and gamers will have either 4GB or 8GB of system memory at their disposal (going all the way up to 32GB, according to Engadget). Internal storage varies but one configuration is 500GB of solid-state storage with 1TB of conventional hard drive space.

It’s hard to say when the Aorus X7 will be available locally but it launches internationally in March this year, starting at $2,100 (R22,500).
