Google already has several other robotics companies at their command, now they have added agile robot manufacturer Boston Robotics to the list of facilities and companies that they own.
Boston Dynamics, home of the Cheetah, Atlas, BigDog and Wildcat robots, will soon be making robots for Google following the announcement last week that the search company has completed its acquisition of the company. Boston Dynamics has made robots for DARPA, the US military and other notable tech companies in the past and is currently still under contract to supply DARPA with its Atlas robots, which will be participating in the DARPA Robotics Challenge.
Google’s Andy Rubin said in a statement “Competitions like the Darpa Robotics Challenge stretch participants to try to solve problems that matter and we hope to learn from the teams’ insights around disaster relief.”
The terms of the deal weren’t mentioned in the report confirming the robotics company’s acquisition and it’s likely that Google will be using Boston Robotics’ technology for its own ends in future.
