Samsung’s Galaxy Grand 2 is creeping up on the Note 3

Samsung has a thing for larger devices just lately and the newest addition to the +5-inch family is the company’s newly announced Galaxy Grand 2 handset. The successor to the Galaxy Grand, which was first revealed in December last year, the Grand 2 improves in its older brother in several ways.

The display has been improved, bringing it closer in size to the company’s Galaxy Note III’s 5.7-inch panel. The Grand 2 will have a 5.25-inch display with a 1,280 x 720 resolution, a step up from the Grand’s 5-inch 800 x 480 effort. Samsung is marketing the Grand 2 as a “compact” phone, which should give you some idea what it considers a normal-sized device these days.

Compact does more or less describe the rest of the specs though: a 1.2GHz quad processor, 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of storage are the standard options for this dual-SIM phone, with microSD support up to 64GB – a normal thing for a Samsung device these days. Android 4.3 will be running the show.

The dual-SIM option suggests a Chinese release, at least at first, but Samsung says that the Grand 2 will be available “in selective regions”, though the company hasn’t specified which ones will see the device or when it will be launched.
