If you’re more of a Helldivers II, Fortnite type of person rather than an Elden Ring, God of War person, you’ve likely noticed some issues currently plaguing the PlayStation Network. Or… not. See, the PlayStation Network (PSN) so kindly went offline at 03h00 SAST, leading to many South Africans being unaware of the outage.

And we’re hoping it stays that way. For many – whether it be work, or school (the holidays are over, bub) – the outage will likely be resolved before they can open up Rocket League or something similar later this evening. Those who can access their PS3, PS4, PS5, or Vita will notice a closed-down PS Store, the inability to access or edit their PSN accounts (on console or web), or even open online games.
Other than a brief post on the Japanese PlayStation Help account on X, Sony has yet to address the issue broadly – and offers no timeline for when the issue might be fixed. It has at the very least updated the PSN status page, giving players an easy way to check when the services are back online. Beware, it’s currently a sea of red.

“You might have difficulty launching games, apps or network features. We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience,” PlayStation said on the status page.
There’s no reason to believe that the outage is a sinister one just yet, unlike the major outage the service suffered in 2011 which saw over 77 million accounts across the PS3 and PSP compromised by bad actors. The entire outage spanned a total of 23 days, a far cry from the seven-hour-long outage the service is experiencing currently.
