Shooter Delta Force returns in September but PC players can go hands-on this week

Delta Force Main

Mention Delta Force to a certain sort of gamer (an old one) and you’ll find almost universal acclaim for the various titles in the series’ back catalogue. It’s been a while since the last game in the series graced the PC screen — fifteen years is a long time — but the wait is about to be over.

The first game in a decade and a half is Delta Force: Hawk Ops and it will bring players a combination of retro and modern gameplay. Presumably, the free-to-play title hopes to capture both the olds and the youngsters when it officially releases in September this year.

Joining Delta Force

Of course, if you’re a PC gamer then you don’t have to wait until the still-unspecified September date to get boots on the ground in both 1993 and 2035. There’s a beta test coming up on 6 August that you can sign up for if you just can’t wait.

Given that more than a decade has passed and developer NovaLogic has since gone to the Big Arcade in the Sky (actually, it merged with THQ Nordic, which is the same thing), this one is being published by Chinese giant Tencent and is being developed by Team Jade, a relatively unknown studio from that country. Since it’s free-to-play, expect the usual hero shooter modes and objective-based multiplayer gameplay.

But if, like us, you’re one of the ‘back in the day’ fans, you’re also in for something exciting. Delta Force: Black Hawk Down is getting the remaster treatment, but it’s not clear yet whether the single-player game will be included as part of the free-to-play Hawk Ops release. If the developers ever get around to letting us shoot up the pyramids of Giza again with a Land Warrior remaster, that would also be fantastic.
