After three years of lossless audio edging, Spotify could finally give fans the release they’ve been begging for. Once again, lossless audio streaming on the platform could be right around the corner. That’s if new strings of code uncovered by a Reddit user are anything to go by.
Spotify’s lossless audio streaming ambitions were first announced in 2021 as ‘Spotify HiFi’. But, as recently as last year, the company seemed to change direction with hints that hi-res streaming would form part of a more expensive, internally-named ‘Supremium’ tier. Now it seems like the streaming giant has changed direction again.
HiFi Super Premium Ultra Pro
A Reddit user has uncovered snippets of code in Spotify’s Android application that appear to indicate lossless audio will be included in an optional subscription add-on called ‘Music Pro’, along with the service’s new DJ remix feature. Unfortunately, the code snippets left out how much the add-on would cost or when it would be available.
At least the mentions of lossless audio are pretty unambiguous, with “Lossless has arrived” and “Your favorite music in 16-bit and 24-bit high-fidelity sound” among them.

Further snippets of code seem to indicate that the streamer is also working on a new feature aimed at headphones. There’s a specific mention of “Headphone enhancements” with other lines referring to selecting “an exact match”. This could be how Spotify plans to add support for spatial audio-capable headphones or it could be something else entirely.
What it is, what it does, if it will be included in the ‘Music Pro’ add-on, when the add-on will launch, and how much extra Spotify will charge for it are all mysterious questions that will hopefully be answered soon.
