Stuff South Africa

PlayStation South Africa’s Black Friday deals start this week

Sure, Black Friday has only claimed the lives of 17 people and injured a further 125 but that isn’t stopping the world from hunting down those sweet, sweet deals. PlayStation South Africa is one of the many companies offering discounts a little early to avoid the stampeding mall crowds come Friday, 24 November. We’re sure the extra moola doesn’t hurt.

While Vodacom has started Black-November festivities relatively early this year, PlayStation is keeping things sensible, with deals starting on Friday, 17 November until Thursday, 30 November.

If games, specifically digital, are all you’re after – the official PlayStation Store is hosting its own sale featuring “EA Sports FC 24, NBA 2K24, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, and much more.” Digital doors will open on Friday, 17 November and close again on Monday, 27 November.

Bring me consoles of Spider-Man!

PlayStation SA Black Friday Spider-Man 2 Bundle

We hope you weren’t banking on snagging anything new from PlayStation – like a VR 2 headset, DualSense Edge, PlayStation Portal, or a PS5 ‘Slim’. Why? For one, neither the Portal nor ‘Slim’ have made their way into the country just yet. And with those prices on the PSVR 2 and Edge? You’re lucky to even be looking at them for free.

If, however, your Black Friday ambitions stretch no further than the usual discounts on the standard DualSense, PS headsets, and a Spider-Man 2-themed console, we’ve got some good news.

The black (and red) standout of the lot is the R2,700 discount on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Limited Edition PS5 Bundle, which includes a custom console and controller plus a copy of the game, and will cost R13,300, down from R16,000. The other Spider-Man 2 PS5 Bundle on offer includes a stock console and controller with a digital copy of the game for R13,000 – down from its usual R15,000.

What with the talk of a PS5 Pro potentially hitting shelves late next year, the safer bet for most is probably a standalone PS5 console, coming in at R12,000, down R1,700.

Slim pickings

It wouldn’t be much of a sale if PlayStation confined itself to a couple of still-too-expensive consoles, would it? It’s also let loose on a few of its peripherals, namely:

Games, too, are joining the sale, though PlayStation South Africa didn’t divulge the entire contents of which games would be discounted, only highlighting a few; God of War: Ragnarök (R900), Gran Turismo 7 (R800), and Horizon Forbidden West (R700). Our advice? If any of these are on your Christmas Wishlist, wait for Sony’s official Black Friday digital sale before biting the bullet on a physical copy.
