Agritech is becoming bigger business. If it’s not using AI to improve output, it’s using an app to monitor and manage an entire farm. That’s the promise Farmers Friend, a new app from South African company IQ Logistica, offers its users.
The app is, specifically, a “Farming Operations Mobile Application”. It’s designed to help out in a wide variety of tasks, from improving yields to managing operational data.

It does this by offering field and farm mapping, represented on the app. This can be accessed either off or online. Sometimes it’s difficult to get a mobile signal out in the field. Then there’s support for “…contract management, weather reporting, soil moisture, and NDVI, harvest and yield reporting”. Plus, you know, around 100 other farm-based tracking functions.
David Jeromin, director of business development at IQ Logistica, said, “By creating a digital footprint, farmers using Farmers Friend have the ability to see every aspect of their farm and its needs offline or online. The team at IQ Logistica are excited that SA farmers are able to use the app to optimize their production while seamlessly accumulating the information necessary to obtain insurance, finance, and sustainability certification.”
Which is a fancy way of saying that it reckons its app will do very well for South Africa’s farming community. Farmers Friend is available now on both the Android and iOS app stores. It’s free to download, but you do have to sign up to developer IQ Logistica’s IQ Thentic web app.
