Oppo has launched its newest smartphone in South Africa. The company’s Reno 7 5G smartphone debuted this evening at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit and International Convention Centre. The phone is available as of 1 April, via Vodacom, MTN, Cell C, Telkom, and other retailers in South Africa. The price of entry? R15,500.
It looks like a straight upgrade over the Oppo Reno 5. The company’s Reno 6… might not turn up here after all.
Going to Reno 7
The Reno 7 features a 6.4in AMOLED display with a hole-punch cut out hosting the front-facing 32MP camera sensor. The screen supports 90Hz and 60Hz refresh rates, with a maximum touch sample rate of 180Hz.
Oppo is touting Reno 7 5G’s unique camera functions. The company claims that its AI-powered software “…enable[s] DSLR-like photo and video content.” That’s a claim we’ll have to see to believe, based on the included hardware. The phone’s rear camera setup includes a 64 MP sensor (f/1.7), an 8 MP ultrawide (f/2.2), and a 2 MP macro sensor (f/2.4). The phone arrives with a set of Oppo’s software tools in tow, including AI Highlight Video, Focus Tracking, Dual-View Video, and Flash Snapshot.

The Reno 7 comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Oppo has also taken a page from Windows computers. 2GB, 3GB, or 5GB of ROM — that’s storage — can be repurposed as RAM. This gives your Android phone a page file.
Oppo’s Reno 7 gets a 4,500mAh battery, which supports 65W SuperVooc charging technology. The company says it’ll get the phone fully charged in about 35 minutes. Four minutes will buy you four hours.
Included with your R15,500 purchase are a set of Oppo’s Enco Buds, a 65W charge block, and one free screen repair. If you break it within six months of purchase, that is.
