Ferrari and Qualcomm get together to (eventually) add more brains to the iconic brawn

Ferrari Qualcomm main

Qualcomm is determined to be literally everywhere. In addition to offering chips for most of the best phones on the planet, the company’s also tying up with one of the world’s most iconic car brands. Ferrari and Qualcomm have just announced a new strategic partnership.

The point? The acceleration of Ferrari’s “digital transformation”. In as few words as possible, the team-up will see the iconic red (or yellow, if you’re weird) livery packing more smarts under the skin. Smarter cars, in other words.

Ferrari go brrrrrm

We’re not only looking at smarter tech for the House of the Prancing Horse. Qualcomm’s also a partner for the Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 team and the Ferrari eSports team. From the look of things, the first involves mostly branding (for now), with more to come later.

There is an actual tech partnership happening, though. The Snapdragon Digital Chassis will be incorporated into the automaker’s road vehicles. This will comprise “…telematics and connectivity, the digital cockpit, as well as ADAS functions and utilizes a unified architecture to deliver enhanced safety and immersive digital experiences that are updateable throughout the lifetime of the vehicles.”

Of course, this only affects most of us as spectators. The car brand offers the sorts of ancillary products you need a home loan to afford. Unless you can actually swing several million for a Ferarri SF90, and a live-in mechanic, odds are you’ll only see the partnership in action during an F1 race or during an eSports match.
