Peugeot recently unveiled a vehicle in a fairly unexpected shape for the brand — and it includes a larger carriage than most others. The newest entry is a bakkie named the Peugeot Landtrek and it features a striking design and a load of tech.

Meet the Landtrek

This isn’t the French brand’s first foray into offroaders and utility vehicles, but it’s by far the best-looking attempt. The Landtrek comes in two flavours: 4×2 and 4×4 — both diesel and both double cab.

Outside you’re greeted with a vertical grille, complete with vertical LED lights. Turn your attention inside, and you’ll find a 10in HD infotainment system that’s compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

On to practicality — this offroader comes fitted with a few stock features that may turn out to be mighty useful, including 235mm of ground clearance, hill descent control, hill start assist, trailer swing control and lane departure warning. Couple these with front and rear parking sensors and reverse cameras, and you’re sorted.

Then there’s the engine capacity — this one comes in a 1.9l turbodiesel number, capable of generating 110kW and 350Nm of torque. Manage the power output and fuel economy by making use of the Manual, Sport, or Eco mode on board.

The 4×2 double-cab option comes in at R580,000 and is named the Allure Landrek, while the 4Action Landtrek 4×4 option will cost you R670,000. They’re on sale from this week
